Ex IES Officer, Government of India · Ex Arbitrator
Advocate Sanjeev Kumar Kansal brings a combination that is rare at the Bar: senior service as an IES officer of the Government of India and experience as an arbitrator. He leads the practice's work in arbitration, in company-law and insolvency proceedings before the NCLT, and in matters investigated or prosecuted by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI.
About
Having sat as an arbitrator, Advocate Kansal approaches arbitral work as a tribunal does: how a claim is framed, how evidence is weighed and how an award is reasoned. That perspective shapes how he prepares a claim, a defence, or a challenge to an award.
He advises on domestic and institutional arbitrations, interim relief under Section 9, appointments under Section 11, and challenges and enforcement under Sections 34 and 36 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. He also leads the practice's company-law and insolvency work before the NCLT and the NCLAT.
His years in government give him a working understanding of how departments, regulators and investigating agencies operate. This informs his advice on public-sector contracts and regulatory exposure, and his work in Enforcement Directorate and CBI matters, where he assists clients from the first summons onwards, including statements and attachment under the PMLA, FEMA proceedings, bail, discharge and trial before the Special Courts.
